Abstract:
Ethanol electro-oxidation reaction was investigated
considering conventional electrochemical experiments in alkaline
media, direct ethanol fuel cell (DEFC), and in situ ATRFTIR.
The working electrode/anodes were composed of monometallic
Pt/C, Au/C, Ir/C, and trimetallic PtAuIr/C nanoparticles
with atomic Pt/Au/Ir ratios of 40:50:10, 50:40:10, 60:30:10,
70:20:10, and 80:10:10. X-ray diffraction (XRD) suggests
PtAuIr/C alloy formation, and according to transmission electron
micrographs, the mean particle sizes are from 4 to 6 nm for all
catalyst compositions. PtAuIr/C 40:50:10 showed the highest
catalytic activity for ethanol electro-oxidation in the electrochemical
experiments; using this material, the peak current density
from ethanol electro-oxidation on cyclic voltammetry experiment
was 50 mA per g of Pt, 3.5 times higher than that observed
with Pt/C. The fuel cell performance was superior using all
PtAuIr/C compositions than using Pt/C. Au/C and Ir/C presented
very poor catalytic activity toward ethanol electro-oxidation. The
improved results obtained using PtAuIr/C might be related to the
OHads species formed at low overpotential on Ir and to the decrease
on adsorption energy of poisoning intermediates on Pt
sites, promoted by Au.

Abstract:
In the present work, a three-dimensional steady-state model was developed to analyze the performance of high-temperature direct ethanol fuel cell (HT-DEFC) based on polybenzimidazole (PBI) electrolytes. A non-isothermal model of a HT-DEFC setup using a PBI/H3PO4 membrane was employed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This work is aiming at a validation of experimental data of HT-DEFC prototypes based on the simulation of polarization curves. The model predicts the mole concentration of H3PO4, heat and current density distributions, as well as mass fraction ethanol during operation at 180 °C. The heat transfer model was coupled to the electrochemical and mass transport, allowing that a particular heating configuration was investigated considering the temperature distribution on the PBI membrane. We have found that temperature and relative humidity (RH) are mostly related to PBI properties resulting from H3PO4 lixiviation and conductivity decreasing as well as ethanol crossover strongly interferes on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) rate, leading to poor HT-DEFC performance.

Palladium nanoparticles supported on phosphorus-doped carbon for ethanol electro-oxidation in alkaline media.

Abstract:
Palladium nanoparticles supported on carbonVulcan
XC72 (Pd/C) and on phosphorus-doped carbon (Pd/P-C) were
prepared by an alcohol reduction process. X-ray diffractograms
of Pd/C and Pd/P-C showed the typical face-centered cubic
(fcc) structure of Pd. The crystallite sizes of Pd fcc phase were
around 8 nm for both samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy
revealed to Pd/C and Pd/P-C that Pd was found predominantly
in the metallic state and to Pd/P-C, the presence of P
increases the amount of oxygen on the electrocatalyst surface.
The activity and stability of the electrocatalyts for ethanol
electro-oxidation in alkalinemedium was investigated by cyclic
voltammetry and chronoamperometry experiments. The peak
current density on Pd/P-C was 50% higher than on Pd/C, while
the current density measured after 30 min at − 0.35 V vs. Hg/
HgO was 65% higher on Pd/P-C than on Pd/C. The enhancement
of the catalytic activity of Pd/P-C electrocatalyst might be
related to the presence of higher amounts of oxygen species on
the surface, which could contribute to the oxidation of intermediates
formed during ethanol electro-oxidation process.

Abstract:
The aim of this work was to produce methanol through partial oxidation of methane. The gas fed in a solid membrane reactor-
PEM fuel cell type (H2/H2O2 + CH4) has been used for electrosynthesis of methanol at room temperature, with electricity
cogeneration as a benefit. It was observed that the current density measured when injected CH4 in the cathode decreased about
45%. This occurs due to the conversion of methane inmethanol in some ranges of potentials. In the other hand, in lower ranges of
cell potential, formaldehyde was found. In this work, methane was injected on the cathode together with H2O2 solution, where it
was observed that the catalytic layer adsorbed CH4 and H2O2 in active sites, which produced OH− radicals that reacted with the
hydrocarbon.

Abstract:
The influence of small amounts of tantalum oxide as co-dopant on phase transformation and stabilization, microstructure
and ionic conductivity of zirconia-10 mol% scandia is reported in this work. Cylindrical pellets were prepared by solid state
synthesis with sintering at 1500 °C for 5 h. High relative density values (> 95%) were achieved. Reduction of the enthalpy
for the cubic ⇌β-rhombohedral phase transformation was found for increasing amounts of the co-dopant. Full stabilization
of the cubic structure at room temperature was obtained with only 0.45 mol% tantalum oxide addition. The ionic conductivity
of sintered specimens was investigated as a function of the temperature and oxygen partial pressure by impedance spectroscopy.
The fully stabilized co-doped system revealed a pure ionic conduction behavior up to 800 °C with wide electrolytic
domain. In the 700–800 °C range, the ionic conductivity of co-doped specimens is similar to that of pure zirconia-scandia.

Abstract:
The results of a systematic investigation on the effects of processing steps, via solid-state reactions, on structural phase
characteristics and ionic conductivity of La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3-δ solid electrolyte are reported. The main purpose of this work is
to establish an optimized route for obtaining good densification and high ionic conductivity of this solid electrolyte. Processing
routes with three successive calcinations at 1250 °C followed by attrition milling (R1), and with two sequences of calcination at
1350 °C with intermediary attrition milling (R2) give rise to near full density at 1450 °C sintering temperature. The rate of grain
growth is fast when the relative density reaches 95%. Elemental mapping reveals uniform distribution of the constituents in the
matrix along with La4Ga2O9, LaSrGa3O7 and sub-micrometer MgO grains at grain boundaries. The ionic conductivity of grains
remains unchanged with the processing route and sintering profile. The blocking effect of charge carriers at grain boundaries
decreases with increasing the dwell temperature.

Buscar no Repositório

ID Autor IPEN
diz respeito ao número único de identificação de cada autor constante no RD e sob o qual estão agrupados todos os seus trabalhos independente das variáveis do seu nome;
A opção
Autor: Maprelian
Título: loss of coolant
International Atomic Energy Agency – IAEA
