Abstract: In this work, particle-in-cell simulations were carried out to investigate the role of the down-ramp length of a H2 gas jet in accelerating electrons ionized by the laser pulse. The laser and plasma density were chosen so that the system is operating in the self-modulated regime. Preliminary results show how the down-ramp length can control the injection of electrons in the first bubble induced in the plasma by the laser pulse.

Abstract: In this work, particle-in-cell simulations were carried out to investigate the dynamics of a laser pulse propagating along a H2 gas jet. The laser-driven wakefield and the density of ionized electrons are analyzed during the pulse propagation through the gas jet. The laser and plasma quantities were chosen in order to have the system operating in the self-modulated regime. Results show how the self-modulation fragments the laser pulse, originating higher-amplitude pulses that can induce bubble formation with wave-breaking and particle injection.

Abstract: Targeted Alpha Therapy (TAT) is an active area of study worldwide. This technique has shown a potential in nuclear medicine to treat metastatic disease by alpha particles that deposit energy in small regions nearby cancer cells. 225Ac is an important alpha-emitting that can be used for cancer TAT. This radioisotope shows good potential for medical applications, therefore it is important to study ways of increase its production and availability. One possible path for the 225Ac production is to irradiate a radium target (226Ra) on a linear electron accelerator (LINAC). Isotope production studies could be implemented using computational tools. In this work, Monte Carlo simulations with FLUKA code were performed and compared to experimental results. We studied 225Ac production by photonuclear reactions using a 24 MeV electron beam LINAC hitting a tungsten electron-photon converter. Different energies and geometries were also simulated to obtain optimal production conditions. The specific activity values obtained with simulations had a good agreement with published experimental results.

New double line architecture produced by fs laser irradiation in Nd3+ doped TeO2-ZnO glass for photonic applications. In: SBFOTON INTERNATIONAL OPTICS AND PHOTONICS CONFERENCE, May 31 - June 2, 2021, Online. Proceedings... Piscataway, NJ, USA: IEEE, 2021. DOI: 10.1109/SBFOTONIOPC50774.2021.9461861

Abstract: We report the fabrication and passive characterization of Nd 3+ doped TeO 2 -ZnO glass with a new configuration of double waveguides, written with fs laser operating at 800 nm, delivering 30 fs pulses at 10kHz repetition rate. The two written lines that form the double waveguide are formed by several overlapping lines. Results of output mode profile, beam quality factor M 2 and refractive index change are presented as well as the parameters used for laser writing. Writing speed of 0.5 mm/s and pulse energy of 15 μJ demonstrated to be adequate parameters for writing. Refractive index changes of Δn = 1×10 -5 and Δn = 1×10-4 were found at 632 nm for double waveguides written with 4 and 8 overlapping lines, respectively. The mode image results at the output of the waveguides showed a confined beam in agreement with multi transverse order mode. Beam quality factor results were the following: M y = 24±3 and M x = 14±3 at 632 nm. The glasses are produced with the melt quenching technique and the preliminary results demonstrated that they are promising materials for the fabrication of passive and active components for photonic applications.

Abstract: An analytical formulation and modeling of an optical fiber Bragg gratings has been developed and is reported in this paper. Supported by the coupled-mode theory and considering that the mode fields of the unperturbed waveguide remain unchanged in the presence of weak perturbations, it is possible to obtain first-order differential equations that have solutions for some types of periodic perturbations. Finally, the model is applied to analyze the influence of structural parameters of fiber gratings, such as length, period and refractive index modulation on its reflectivity and bandwidth.

Piscataway, NJ, USA: IEEE, 2021. DOI: 10.1109/SBFOTONIOPC50774.2021.9461976

Abstract: Electron beams generated by laser wakefield acceleration can induce a photoneutron reaction to convert 100Mo into 99Mo. Multi-pC, several-MeV electron beams, obtained from particle-in-cell simulations, could generate bremsstrahlung gamma photons within the absorption region of the photonuclear reaction. The efficiency of this process is estimated for a laser accelerator operating at kHz repetition rate in the self-modulated regime. The electron beam kinetic energy must be improved to 40MeV. To meet the typical consumption of 99Mo per patient within its decay timescale, this efficiency must be increased by three orders of magnitude.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to use infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) for monitoring biological changes in burned skin. Wistar rats dorsum samples were compared to healthy group samples at 7, 14, 21 days after burn. Proteins changes of burn wounds were monitored by area under the curve (AUC) of bands at 1630 cm 1 , 1543 cm 1 and 1743 cm 1 . Kruskal-Wallis normality tests, unpaired t test with Welch's correction were used to evaluate the differences between AUC. These bands suggest association between collagen activity during wound healing stages. Our result indicates progressive recovery of 7,14 and 21 days tissues when compared with the healthy group.

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the anti-caries effect of fluoride associated with Nd:YAG laser irradiation in the h-eatment of enamel Eight groups (n = S) were analyzed: Negative Control pH 4.5; Negative control pH 4; Fluoride pH 4.5; Fluoride pH 4; Nd-YAG pH 4.5; Nd-YAG pH 4; (Fluoride + Nd-YAG) pH 4.5 and (Fluoride + Nd-YAG) pH 4. All samples were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) before and after the cycle. Quantification of phosphorus in the cycling solutions was carried out using the colorimetric method, as an indication of enamel demineralization. The anti-caries effect of the Fluoride + Nd: YAG treatment in addition to the critical pH of the enamel can be observed in the morphological analysis, however in the analysis of the demineralization solutions, the amount of phosphorus showed a difference only in the Fluoiide group compared to the others in the investigative pH.

Abstract: We review the fundamentals of electron beam generation in self-modulated laser wakefield acceleration (SM-LWFA) using laser pulses with peak powers on the TW and sub-TW scale. The results of several new particle-in-cell simulations for λ = 0.8 μm and a thin H2 gas target are shown. By scanning the peak gas density and peak power values of the incident laser, we discuss the resulting acceleration processes, as well as the characteristics of the electron beams generated for different conditions. Our approach provides a method to optimize these beams with lasers operating at kHz repetition rates.

Abstract: Lasers are used for preventing demineralization, but there are no studies that report the compositional changes on root dentin irradiated with Er,Cr:YSGG (2.78μm) laser in an erosive process. In this in vitro study, fifty dentin slabs were distributed in 5 groups to be treated with Er,Cr:YSGG laser associated or not with application of acidulated phosphate fluoride gel (APF-gel); then, a 10-days erosion regimen was conducted and the composition changes were monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The data suggest a synergistic effect between laser irradiation and APF-gel, with a greater preventive effect when APF-gel was applied after irradiation.

Abstract: The NUMEN project aims at accessing experimentally driven information on Nuclear Matrix Elements (NME) involved in the half-life of the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ), by high-accuracy measurements of Heavy Ion (HI) induced Double Charge Exchange (DCE) reaction cross sections. In particular, the (18O,18Ne) and (20Ne,20O) reactions are used as tools for β+β+ and β-β- decays, respectively. In the experiments, performed at INFN - Laboratory Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania, the beams are accelerated by the Superconducting Cyclotron (CS) and the reaction ejectiles are detected the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer. The measured cross sections are challengingly low (a few nb), being the total reaction cross section much larger (a few b), thus a high sensitivity and a large rejection capability are demanded to the experimental set-up. This limits the present exploration to few selected isotopes of interest in the context of typically low-yield experimental runs. A major upgrade of the LNS facility is foreseen in order to increase the experimental yield of at least two orders of magnitude, still keeping the high sensitivity of the present set-up, making it feasible a systematic study of all the cases of interest. Frontiers technologies are going to be developed, to this purpose, for the accelerator and the detection systems. In parallel, advanced theoretical models are being developed in order to extract the nuclear structure information from the measured cross sections.

Abstract: This work presents a study for the firsts 4 cycles of recharge of the reactor AP-Th1000, a version of the reactor AP1000 using mixed uranium and thorium oxides as fuel, which the feasibility studies had been already demonstrated in previous study for a first cycle. The AP-Th 1000 study is a proposal to start the thorium fuel cycle using the most common reactor technology in the nuclear industry, the Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR). A preliminary closed cycle study is carried out for the first 4 cycles where the production of 233U are evaluated. In cycles 2, 3 and 4, new assemblies with a fuel of the remaining uranium from the previous cycle are used instead of assemblies removed from the core, thus being a mixture of different uranium’s (232U, 233U, 234U, 235U, 236U and 238U) , where the additional fissile material inserted into the fuel to ensure the 18-month operation of the reactor comes from uranium oxides enriched at 20 w / o.. The results demonstrate the viability of the proposal and again using closed fuel cycle.

Abstract: Spot welding is a widely used tool for joining sheets parts in the automotive industry. As 22MnB5 steel has the adequate mechanical strength to withstand lateral impact and rollover stresses, it was chosen for the use in B-pillar. It was observed the need to study the spot welded joints, due to the increased need of the automobile industry in reducing the weight vehicle and increasing the passengers' safety in compliance with Resolution of the National Traffic Council of Brazil - CONTRAN n° 751 on the lateral collision test. The microstructure of this steel, in the as fabricated condition, is basically formed by ferrite and perlite, with a tensile strength limit of 600 MPa. This steel is designed to undergo rapid cooling during hot stamping. After this process, this steel presents a completely martensitic microstructure and tensile strength close to 1500 MPa. This work aimed to investigate the strength of spot welded specimens under different experimental conditions, observing the deformations during the tensile tests. The tests were digitally recorded and the sequenced frames were analyzed using a method called digital image correlation (DIC).

Abstract: Biosorption has been widely examined for the treatment of aqueous solutions containing uranium, a radiotoxic pollutant. The use of hydroxyapatite and bone meal as potential biosorbents in the removal of uranium (U) from aqueous solutions has not yet been previously addressed. In this work, the efficiency of these biosorbents in the removal of U was investigated according to their adsorption removal capacities. Surface transformations in both materials were observed after U adsorption by scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). The biomass/U solution ratio was kept at 0.1 g/5 mL. Contact times for the batch experiments were 15, 30, 60, 120, and 180 min, and the concentration of U tested was 680 mg L-1. The equilibrium was achieved in less than 15 min for both materials. The morphological characteristics of each biomass, before and after biosorption experiments were analyzed. Bone meal highlighted slightly superior adsorption results in terms of maximum capacity (qmax = 33.83 mg g-1), compared to hydroxyapatite (qmax = 33.36 mg g-1), with the removal percentages being also similar, 99.97 and 98.57 %, respectively. The results so far indicate that these materials are potential biosorbents for the treatment of uranium-contaminated solutions, especially liquid radioactive waste.

In: INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON RADIATION PROCESSING, 19th, April 1-5, 2019, Strasbourg, France. Proceedings... 2019.

Abstract: A catalyst is a substance that changes the rate of a reaction. In the petroleum industry, the catalysts are commonly used for Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) and Hydro Catalytic Cracking (HCC), each of them applied in a specific stage. These catalysts are used to facilitate the molecular chains cracking, which will generate a mixture of hydrocarbons. However, the catalyst gradually loses its activity, either by changing its original molecular structure or by its contamination from other petroleum molecules. The application of ionizing radiation (medium-energy electron beam) over these spent catalysts was studied to contribute the extraction of metals or rare-earths of high added-value. Tests conducted with HCC catalysts were used the technique of electron beam irradiation (1.3 MeV) and had as a subject the extraction of Molybdenum. Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis was performed on a Shimadzu EDX-720/800HS and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis on a Rigaku MultiFlex. Electron beam irradiation had a positive contribution if compared to traditional thermal and chemical methods. In temperature around 750°C, HCC irradiated catalysts of the lower region have an extraction of Molybdenum (MoO3) yield twice higher compared to non-irradiated ones, in other words 57.65% and 26.24%, respectively.

Abstract: The treatment of wastewater and industrial effluents by electron beam irradiation is a promising technique, however, not very widespread in Brazilian territory. The design and construction of a mobile unit by the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute, containing an electron beam accelerator of 700 keV and 20 kW is innovative to demonstrate the effects and positive results of this technology. The aim is to transfer the mobile unit to several companies with interest in liquid waste treatment, connect to the industry electrical system and start the ionization treatment process through electron beam. The mobile unit connection to the local electrical system may be a challenge due to the great diversity of voltages and distances involved, as well as the large injections of harmonic content generated by the electron beam accelerator that can affect sensitive loads in the industrial system. In this work, an analysis of the electrical power system of the mobile unit was made, regarding the interruption capacity, selectivity protection and adequate short circuit levels, in order to assure a greater reliability in the operation. At the end, the control panel of the mobile unit, simulations and measurements were carried out at the 1.5 MeV and 37.5 kW electron beam accelerator, installed in the Radiation Technology Center, demonstrating the necessity of applying a filter to reduce the measured harmonic distortion. The analysis of the mobile unit electrical power system was made, in order to assure a greater reliability in the operation.

Architectural design of a mobile irradiation unit for the treatment of industrial effluents in Brazil. In: INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON RADIATION PROCESSING, 19th, April 1-5, 2019, Strasbourg, France. Proceedings... 2019.

Abstract: The Nuclear and Energy Research Institute (IPEN-CNEN/SP) decided to develop and build a mobile beam irradiation unit for the treatment of industrial effluents. The mobile unit will have as one of its main advantages the possibility of treating effluents in the place where the source is located, eliminating costs and bureaucratic problems associated with the transportation of waste, besides publicizing the technology in several places in Brazil. To implement the project, IPEN-CNEN/SP has been consolidating partnerships with national and international companies. The resources for the development of the unit have been supplied by the Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP) and International Atomic Energy Agency, financing the IAEA TC Project BRA1035 – Mobile electron beam accelerator to treat and recycle industrial effluents. The Institute hired a specialized company (Truckvan Industry) for the unit design and development. Several meetings have been realized with the company and the IAEA experts aiming the compatibility of the design and the exchange of information necessary for the project development. Regarding the mobile lab, several layout options have been developed to better meet the needs of each device and its users. The layout has been discussed with the objective of facilitating the maintenance of the equipment; the well-being and ergonomics of operators; optimization of spacing and also to make compatible the need for the presence of equipment and space for operators. Thus, several studies have been prepared to allow the discussion between the areas involved and to optimize the project, as well as the visualization of the spaces available. In this paper is presented the approach adopted for the architectural design of a mobile irradiation unit in Brazil.

Abstract: This research aims to contribute to the discussion of ceramic objects found at the Monte Castelo shell mound (sambaqui), an archaeological site located at south west Amazonia, Brazil. The first study performed in the area in the 1980s suggests that this archaeological site is inserted within one of the oldest contexts of ceramic production in Amazonia. Until today, there have not been any studies of the physical and chemical properties of these objects to reconstruct clay procurement practices and contribute to their archaeological interpretation. With this purpose, this paper provides the results of a preliminary chemical characterization of eighty four pottery samples using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) by means of the determination of Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, Hf, K, La, Lu, Na, Rb, Sc, Sm, Th, U, Yb and Zn. The compositional analysis produced substantial geochemical data that allowed comparisons of the similarity/dissimilarity between the samples by means of cluster, principal components and discriminant analysis. The results showed the existence of three different chemical groups whose dates range from 3,000 B.P. to 1,500 B.P. and are in agreement with other studies that place the Bacabal phase as the oldest ceramist culture in the Southwest of the Amazon. Additionally, this study provided a solid research framework of investigation that can be employed for more detailed and extensive future studies on ancient human occupation in the research area.

Abstract: In recent years, antimicrobial packaging has attracted much attention from the food industry because of the increase in consumer demand for minimally processed, preservative-free-products. Different grades of polyethylene, LLDPE and LDPE play a major role in the film blowing industry and are widely used for packing applications. In our study, blown films of LLDPE / LDPE, and their blends were produced using a twin screw extruder. The combination of PEs as matrix, and silver nanoparticles with oleic acid solution, improved the AgNPs dispersion in the films. The films were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDX), and Ecotoxicity. Further, the antibacterial properties of the films were investigated against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) bacteria.

In: INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR ATLANTIC CONFERENCE, October 21-25, 2019, Santos, SP. Proceedings... Rio de Janeiro: Associação Brasileira de Energia Nuclear, 2019. p. 18-27.

Abstract: Brazil is the largest country of Latin America, with 8.5 million square kilometers divided into five regions with 3 time zones. In this large between-country distances, with plenty of radioactive facilities throughout the country, professional education and communication is a must and a challenge. This paper discusses a web-based project designed to provide effective communication about occupational exposure, linking geographically distant workers to high-quality reliable information. The web-based-project UNIPRORAD counts on concepts, definitions and theory about radiological protection based on both national and international standards, guidelines and recommendations. The content includes optimization, monitoring, potential exposure and communication on occupational risk agents in the workplace. Regarding potential exposures, it is essential to consider the concept of “risk” which, even among scientific community, seems to assume a great variety of meanings. Regarding risk agents in the workplace, it is necessary to discuss the identification and evaluation of the various risk agents (physical, chemical biological and ergonomic) addressing attention to their association to ionizing radiation. This article presentsthe authors' experience in the communication of radiological protection in Brazil, presenting global and specific issues on radiological protection, analyzing recommendations and discussing discrepancies among the several valid publications. It is our objective the dissemination of trustful updated communication, providing radioactive facilities relevant, accurate and understandable information. Finally, the article emphasizes the need to spread information wherever it is needed to inform as many people as possible, contributing to develop workers´ professional skills and to improve safety culture in workplace.

In: BRAZILIAN CONGRESS OF THERMAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING, 18th, November 16-20, 2020, Online. Proceedings... Rio de Janeiro, RJ: Associação Brasileira de Engenharia e Ciências Mecânicas, 2020.

Abstract: This work presents a simulation of a vertical, upward, isothermal two-phase flow of air bubbles and water in an annular channel applying a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code. The simulation considers an Eulerian frame, with a two-fluid model, specific correlations for turbulence modeling, and bubble-induced turbulence effects. The work intends to assess the accuracy of the code by comparing the simulation results with experimental data obtained from the literature. The annular channel has an equivalent hydraulic diameter of 19.1 mm, where the outer pipe has an internal diameter of 38.1 mm, the inner cylinder 19.1 mm, and a total length of 1900 mm. The void fraction distribution, taken radially to the flow section, is the main parameter analyzed besides interfacial area concentration (IAC), interfacial gas velocity, and bubble diameters distribution. The numerical models applied in this work demonstrate satisfactory agreement with the experimental data but indicate the need for further improvement in the phase interaction models.

In: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RESEARCH REACTORS: ADDRESSING CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ENSURE EFFECTIVENESS AND SUSTAINABILITY, November 25-29, 2019, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Proceedings... Vienna, Austria: International Atomic Energy Agency, 2020.

Abstract: Technically, nuclear reactors are equipment were neutron chain reactions of fissile material are safely controlled. Particularly, Research Reactors (RR) use the produced neutrons to a variety of objectives in science, technology, innovation, education, and direct products to society as, for example, the radioisotopes for nuclear medicine. Management is a fundamental aspect to the mission success of a RR and essential to its sustainability and effectiveness. As higher the neutron flux and the RR utilization, more complex are the management actions required to the installation, and their out-installation interfaces as well. Nevertheless, basic management requirements are still necessary to low neutron flux RR, for example, a critical facility. There are many important areas to be considered in RR management as organizational structure, operation, utilization, safety, fuel management, waste management, accessibility and security, human resources development, and financial resources among others. This paper resumes the author invited oral presentation that covers relevant aspects of RR management. Examples are given, based on the author’s experience, related to RRs fulfilling their planned missions and, particularly, related to the development and installation of a new RR project.

Vienna, Austria: International Atomic Energy Agency, 2020.

Abstract: Early in 1956, the Atomic Energy Institute (IEA, from the acronym in portuguese) was founded with the aim of installing the nuclear research reactor purchased from the American company Babcock & Wilcox in the framework of the “Atoms for Peace” program. The start-up was on September 16, 1957, where the first criticality in the Southern hemisphere was achieved. The IEA-R1 is a pool type, light water cooled and moderated, beryllium and graphite reflected research reactor. Although designed to operate continuously at up to 5 MW, it operated at 2 MW for 40 years and only rather recently started operating at 5 MW. This year IEA-R1 completed 62 years of operation. The reactor is the core of the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute – IPEN (former IEA) – with its laboratories working for radiopharmaceutical applications, in the areas of radiological protection, nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear engineering, and radiation applications among others. Throughout this period it underwent several reforms, renovations and changes of management. In 2000 an Integrated Management System (IMS) has been structured, based on ISO-9001, in order to keep the operation safe, which implied certain procedures together with a continuous modernization program, and to comply with the regulatory requirements at the date as well. The first certification dates to 2002 and since then the reactor has been successfully renewing its ISO certification. The history, experiences and lessons learned during the 62 years of the IEA-R1 operation are described and shared in this paper.

Abstract: This paper describes a general methodology for the description of inductive power and data transfer based on virtual magnetic transmission-lines (VMGTLs). This approach presents a better physical insight on the channel behavior since the model correctly preserves the energy flow between the transmitting and receiving coils. Particularly, the virtual-TL analogy clarifies the mechanism of transmission gain improvement between any two coils assisted by MTM lenses. Based on the results of this work, these lenses do not enhance the magnetic coupling between the drivers, as usually claimed, but create conditions to propagating near-field modes to increase their power transfer. This approach also reveals that MTMs could be employed not only for the increasing of power transfer but also for enlarging the inductive channel bandwidth.

Abstract: The use of ultrashort femtosecond laser pulses is an alternative for micro machining on metal surfaces, with several industrial applications, in such areas as aeronautics, aerospace, naval, nuclear, among others, where there is growing concern about service reliability. Thus, markings for traceability purposes should ensure the integrity of the metal as well as allow reading of the marked characters, whether automated or not. In this work, micro machining of zircaloy Z 4 surfaces using femtosecond laser was performed aiming at the knowledge of the ablation threshold and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis in different images. Obtained from micro machined traces, energy fluence parameters and laser pulse overlap. The amount of ablated material in this femtosecond laser micro machining is negligible, which contributes to ensuring that there is no mi crostructural damage. Such a process resulted in different images, which characterize that there are different optical properties because of the parameters change.

Abstract: The effect of laser marking process on the tribological behaviour of ISO 5832-1 austenitic stainless steel (SS) on the friction coefficient and wear volume using ball-cratering wear tests was evaluated in this work. The laser marking process was carried out with a nanosecond optical fiber ytterbium laser at four different pulse frequencies. For comparison reasons, surfaces without laser treatments were also evaluated. A phosphate buffer solution (PBS) was used as lubricant. The wear tests were carried out during 10 min with PBS drip, solid spheres of AISI 316L SS with 1 inch in diameter and of 52-100 chrome steel, with 2 mm in diameter, were used as counter-bodies. The results indicated that the tribological behaviour is influenced by the laser marking process parameters used, and the wear rate is dependent of the normal force and the type of sphere.

KIBRIT, E. ; AQUINO, A.R. . Sustainability management system model for operating organisations of nuclear research reactors. In: EUROPEAN RESEARCH REACTOR CONFERENCE, October 12-15, 2020, Online. Proceedings... Brussels, Belgium: European Nuclear Society, 2020.

Abstract: United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Nuclear and isotopic techniques contribute directly to achieving the SDGs related to energy, human health, food production, water management and environmental protection. This paper proposes a sustainability management system model for operating organisations of nuclear research reactors, supported by four sustainability pillars: institutional, economic, environmental and social. Each pillar of sustainability is formed by categories of indicators found in bibliographic references and validated by nuclear and sustainability academic experts, by using Delphi method. The management system model proposed has a high-level structure based on standards established by International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), considers safety requirements of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and corporate sustainability requirements found in bibliographic references. Stakeholders’ requirements and expectations are inputs of the management system. The focus of the management system is nuclear safety and the organisation's commitment to sustainable development. A method for validating the sustainability management system, a sustainable development matrix to assess the maturity of sustainability management over time, and a sustainable value model, which evaluates the path taken by the organisation towards sustainable development, are tools that support the management system proposed. The management system outputs are management decisions that comply with organisation's policy, objectives and processes; products that meet stakeholders' requirements and expectations; and a Sustainability Report that contains sustainability indicators addressed by institutional, economic, environmental and social dimensions.
