    Abstract: Barium aluminates doped with Eu2+ and Dy3+ (BaAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+) were prepared with the combustion synthesis at temperatures between 400 and 600 °C as well as with the solid state reaction at 1500 °C. The concentrations of Eu2+/Dy3+ (in mole% of the Ba amount) ranged from 0.1/0.1 to 1.0/3.0. The electronic and defect energy level structures were studied with thermoluminescence (TL) and different synchrotron radiation spectroscopies: UV-VUV excitation and emission, XANES and EXAFS. Theoretical calculations using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) were carried out in order to compare with the experimental data.

    Abstract: Rare earth complexes were synthesized and doped into polymers resulting in luminescent films. The obtained systems were characterized with elemental analysis, IR, TGA/DTG and XRD techniques. Photoluminescence properties were investigated and processes of energy transfer and sensitization were studied. Monochromatic emissions of obtained polymeric systems enabled their potential applications in multicolor displays because of the primary colors emitted by TR3+: red (Sm3+ and Eu3+), blue (Gd3+) and green (Tb3+). The polymer matrix performs an essential role in the luminescent sensitization processes for systems containing Sm3+, Eu3+, Gd3+ and Tb3+, therefore the overall systems act as Light Conversion Molecular Devices (LCMDs).

    Abstract: Barium aluminates doped with divalent europium and trivalent dysprosium were prepared with the combustion method and then incorporated with silica using the microemulsion method. The incorporated phosphor particles showed improved water resistance, preserving much of the prior persistent luminescence properties even after interaction with water whereas the nonincorporated particles loosed the original persistent luminescence. The infrared absorption spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence studies were used to characterize the phosphors. The pH of the phosphor-water mixture after the reaction with water was measured to compare the water resistance of the materials. The photoluminescence of the incorporated BaAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ with water modified slightly the 4f6 5d1 →4f7 transition of Eu2+, however.

    Abstract: Silica nanotubes derived from tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and organossilicate nanotubes derived from methyltrietoxysilane (MTES) and vinyltrietoxysilane (VTES) were synthesized using ammonium tartarate and ammonium citrate as templates, via the sol-gel process. The products were characterized by TGA, FTIR and XRD. The morphology of the materials was examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was observed the formation of tubular morphologies and some spherical micro particles that coexisted in the materials.

    Abstract: – Nafion-SiO2 hybrid membranes were prepared by the incorporation of SiO2 into commercial Nafion 115 for applications as electrolytes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) operating at high temperature (~130ºC). These hybrids were produced by conventional in-situ sol-gel method using Tetraethyl Ortosilicate (TEOS) as the silicon precursor, and some synthesis parameters, such as the nature of alcohol (methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol) used as solvent in the sol-gel reaction were evaluated. The morphological changes in polymeric matrix were analyzed by water-uptake and small angle X-ray scattering measurements (SAXS). These hybrids were tested in single cells by polarization curves at high temperature.

    Abstract: Nafion-Titania composite membranes prepared either by casting or by sol-gel route have been studied as electrolytes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEM Fuel Cell) at high temperatures (130 ºC). Small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive analysis using x-rays (EDAX) and impedance spectroscopy (IS) were employed to investigate the composite properties. The cast-composite membrane has a heterogeneous distribution of titania particles in the film, whereas the solgel-composite has a well-dispersion of the inorganic phase. The former composite have higher proton conductivity, while the latter has lower proton conduction, owing to the high tortuosity imposed by the dispersed insulator nanoparticles.

    Abstract: The aim of this work was to evaluate the in vitro biocompatibility of calcium phosphate ceramics containing different proportions of β-tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite in the presence of human fibroblasts (FMM1). The results showed that these materials were biocompatible and may promote and enhance bone regeneration.

    Abstract: – A carbon-supported binary Pt3Sn catalyst was prepared using a modified polymeric precursor method. This material was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the results showed that Pt3Sn is the dominant phase. The transmission electron microscopy showed good dispersion of the electrocatalyst and small particle sizes (3.6 nm ± 1.1 nm). The polarization curves for a DEFC using Pt3Sn/C as the anode presented an improved performance compared to that with PtSn/C E-TEK. The maximum power density for Pt3Sn/C electrocatalyst (55 mW cm-2) is nearly twice as great as that of PtSn/C E-TEK electrocatalyst (33 mW cm-2). This behavior may be explained by an electronic effect which is responsible for the increasing in the efficiency toward EOR as indicated in the literature.

O RI-IPEN apresenta também um aspecto inovador no seu funcionamento. Por meio de metadados específicos ele está vinculado ao sistema de gerenciamento das atividades do Plano Diretor anual do IPEN (SIGEPI). Com o objetivo de fornecer dados numéricos para a elaboração dos indicadores da Produção Cientifica Institucional, disponibiliza uma tabela estatística registrando em tempo real a inserção de novos itens. Foi criado um metadado que contém um número único para cada integrante da comunidade científica do IPEN. Esse metadado se transformou em um filtro que ao ser acionado apresenta todos os trabalhos de um determinado autor independente das variáveis na forma de citação do seu nome.

A elaboração do projeto do RI do IPEN foi iniciado em novembro de 2013, colocado em operação interna em julho de 2014 e disponibilizado na Internet em junho de 2015. Utiliza o software livre Dspace, desenvolvido pelo Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Para descrição dos metadados adota o padrão Dublin Core. É compatível com o Protocolo de Arquivos Abertos (OAI) permitindo interoperabilidade com repositórios de âmbito nacional e internacional.

O Repositório Digital do IPEN é um equipamento institucional de acesso aberto, criado com o objetivo de reunir, preservar, disponibilizar e conferir maior visibilidade à Produção Científica publicada pelo Instituto, desde sua criação em 1956.

Operando, inicialmente como uma base de dados referencial o Repositório foi disponibilizado na atual plataforma, em junho de 2015. No Repositório está disponível o acesso ao conteúdo digital de artigos de periódicos, eventos, nacionais e internacionais, livros, capítulos, dissertações, teses e relatórios técnicos.

O gerenciamento do Repositório está a cargo da Biblioteca do IPEN. Constam neste RI, até o presente momento 20.950 itens que tanto podem ser artigos de periódicos ou de eventos nacionais e internacionais, dissertações e teses, livros, capítulo de livros e relatórios técnicos. Para participar do RI-IPEN é necessário que pelo menos um dos autores tenha vínculo acadêmico ou funcional com o Instituto. Nesta primeira etapa de funcionamento do RI, a coleta das publicações é realizada periodicamente pela equipe da Biblioteca do IPEN, extraindo os dados das bases internacionais tais como a Web of Science, Scopus, INIS, SciElo além de verificar o Currículo Lattes. O RI-IPEN apresenta também um aspecto inovador no seu funcionamento.
